us claycourtchamps logo 300x160 photoThe ATP Tour heads to Texas this week for the US Men’s Clay Court Championship. With the French Open on the horizon, players will start switching to the clay surface for this swing of the season. This is only a 250 level event, but as it is on the great leveller that is clay, there are some interesting options to weigh up. For starters you can look at some tournament form and pick out Tommy Haas, who has a 15-6 record. At the age of 35 he still managed to beat Novak Djokovic in Miami recently and made it to the semi’s there. However, he’s not tempting enough at a short price to take though.

Argentine Juan Monaco beat John Isner in the final last season. He’s a clay specialist but is well out of form so to be avoided. He’ll probably pick his game up on clay, but it takes time to rediscover a winning mentality. Therefore the obvious pick of the week will be Nicolas Almagro as outright winner for a price of 2/1 at betting exchange Betfair.

But there are two Americans in the field who are going to be of note to watch for match betting this week in terms of looking for value, Sam Querrey and John Isner. Big serving Sam Querrey is the longer shot as he is in the same half as Almagro, so would consider Isner. A favourable draw for last year’s losing finalist, means that he could be primed to win his first ever clay court title and is a hometown Houston favourite to boot. Opportunity for John Isner here at real value at 7/1 with betting exchange Betfair.
